Castle Town Chofu prospered during the Edo period under the feudal lord, Chofu Mori. Later it became an important location for supporters of the Meiji restoration. Karato, the town of ‘the roar of the waves’, has been a busy port town for a very long time. It has both an old fashion atmosphere with its retro styled buildings and a modern atmosphere with its current waterfront. The walking tour has a great variety of sites to see including many retro style buildings, a modern aquarium and the Akama Shrine.
