Education

Education means human development. We are working on the improvement of the educational environment to bring up children who will play an important role for the future of Japan and Shimonoseki City. Our goal is to create an “Educational City”. We are working to achieve this goal by creating an environment that encourages residents to learn, a network that helps them to widen what they are able to learn and stages that allow them to make use of what they have learned.

Yumegaoka Junior High School was opened after a two-school merger in April 2005. It has adopted a “subject-classroom style”, where students move from classroom to classroom according to subjects.

The Shimonoseki Future School Project provides children with opportunities to have contact with people, who are internationally active. In the first Mirai School, Masatoshi Koshiba, a Nobel Prize winner, made a speech.
