Creation of a City where People can Live without Anxiety
Shimonoseki City is blessed with a beautifully scenic natural environment which includes the Kanmon Straits, the long and beautiful Sanin coastline, green mountains and forests, and the rivers that form the habitat of fireflies. By putting these natural resources to use, the municipality will strive to improve the infrastructure and create a city that is kind to people and eco-friendly, where people can live in safety and without anxiety.
Conservation, improvement, and creation of the Kanmon scenery.
The Shimonoseki municipality and the Kitakyushu municipality jointly established the Kanmon Scenery Ordinance. Based on the ordinance, the municipalities have designated the Kanmon scenery creation districts. Guidelines are set for the forms and colors of constructions in the designated districts. The two municipalities have thus been cooperating to conserve, improve, and create the Kanmon scenery.
Shimonoseki City Barrier-Free Transportation Scheme
The Shimonoseki City drew up a scheme for barrier-free transportation. The scheme provides policies and measures to promote the elimination of transportation barriers focusing on JR Shimonoseki station, JR Shin-Shimonoseki station, and the area around the bus terminal of Kikugawa Town
Ordinance concerning the eradication of nuisance posters
Based on the Ordinance concerning the eradication of nuisance posters, any citizen can remove nuisance posters within the City.
Shimonoseki license plates
The use of Shimonoseki license plates for vehicles has been authorized. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport introduced the Shimonoseki license plates in response to demand that had developed before the merger. The use of the plates will start in FY2006. Vehicles with Shimonoseki license plates will run throughout Japan and promote the image as well as the development of the City.
Shimonoseki Kankyo Mirai-kan (Shimonoseki Recycle Center)
You can visit this hall to study how recyclables are processed and see how old furniture and bicycles are restored in the recycling workshop. You can also experience paper making and soap making with used oil.
Shimonoseki City Birthday Cleaning
June 1st is the city cleaning day. On June1, 1902, Akamagaseki City was renamed Shimonoseki City, and the citizens have cleaned the city on June 1st every year since.
District Council
The District Council was established to ensure careful administrative services. The council complies and submits reports on formulation of the basic plans concerning the new City and other matters in response to requests from the mayor.
